Meet Jim at our upcoming shows:
Hello Friends,
Market Report
Welcome to our weekly emailer. The market has been powerfully strong and we have been incredibly busy!We have been working hard all week to get our new purchases up on the website from both Central States and theMichigan State show. Numerous PQ gold coins, from a really neat deal, were added this week. It’s a great time to add some Gem gold to your collection so take a look at U.SGold even if you usually don`t view this section. Incredible color, luster, and history at prices that may, in a year or two, seem cheap in bullion terms. Many of these coins defy their grades, what a group! Whatever we don`t sell, in the next 30 days, will surely end up on the crack out counter when we go to Long Beach and Baltimore!
Variety Premium
Something New and Exciting! We have added a new section called Variety Premium (VP). Since we have really beefed up our inventory with Better Varieties, both Die Marriages and States, we find it beneficial to delineate these coins from our regular type offerings. Thus, we have created a separate page, accessed from our home page. To see the images,go tothe regular listings. The descriptions will show a (VP) at the beginning of the listing to signify that these coins bring more than Type and Variety. Many of these coins are Die Marriage varieties but quite a few are also redbook and registry varieties.
What is a Variety
Many collectors specialize in these coins and collect one or more series by obtaining a coin struck from each pair of dies used. On the early American coinage there can be quite a wide variation between dies, as they were engraved by hand. Dies, have their own personality, some develop cracks or chips, most show some degree of clashing (striking the opposing die without a planchet between them), thus imparting portions of the designs into the fields of the other die. We love the comedy of errors that are seen through all of our early coins; misspelled words, upside down numbers, wrong denominations, mathematically improper fractions, and the list is endless. Several of these coins are represented in our inventory particularly in the Copper and Silver series. Our own Jim Matthews is an expert in this field and you can Email him directly at jim@hlrc.com and give your want list or ask questions in this area. Check out the recent article in our articles section on this topic.
EACgoes to TEXAS
We will be attending the Early American Coppers Convention in DallasMay 8-11. We will have a limited inventory on hand for this small but powerful gathering. The who`s who of Copper and Bust coinage will be attending this show. It is a fabulous show, in which we have participatedfor the last ten years. This is a club event with numerous educational series and specialty viewings, as well as, an auction dedicated toadvanced collectors. Chuck Heck usually tells Jokes on the loud speaker most of the time and keeps everyone in a good mood. The show is a lot of fun and some great coins are always available. Our table number is a mystery, but we won't be difficult to find, as the show is intimately arranged. We will be sitting next to the famous and all knowing Professor Mic McQuigan; He keeps me out of trouble.
If you want to see a specific coin at this show, please call in advance as we will have a limited inventory on hand.
Nifty Deal of Early Quarters
We were fortunate to purchase a large group ofQuarters that have been off the market for many years. Though wehave not quite yet finishedcataloging this group, we do plan to release it before EAC onto our website, and have the coins for viewing at the show. A terrific selection of Die Marriages, as well as some high grade examples of both small and large size quarters. Please keep checking our site as we hope to release this group next week!! It’s a very Cool group and this is the first time they have been offered to the public at large.
Website Update.....
We are working hard to bring you a revamped website that will still achieve the ease of use and overall simplicity of our current site. We plan to have some new features and some new ways to group specialty coins which will make them easier to view. This is a long term endeavor, and our own Cat Keller is heading up the project. If anyone has any suggestions on things they would like to see, or features you think we must have, please drop her a line, CAT@hlrc.com and she will take your suggestions into consideration.
Send us your edits.
If you think keeping a website straight, with over 300 first class listings is easy, well, you are incorrect! We make mistakes. Sometimes the pictures do not compliment thelook of the coin and sometimes we misspell words or get something in the wrong section. We want your help and were not going to pay you. Please and by all means, if you see something that looks wrong send us an email so we can correct it...We will so appreciate your help! Tonight, wehad just released the variety premium section and realized we had picked up the wrong field and all the varieties were wrong!!! An Astute Collector Client emailed to say, neat idea but all your info is wrong. Well thanks to him we are all getting the right info! Let’s all give Jeff a big hand!!! THANKS JEFF!!!
Okay that's about it for now. Take a look at the list. ITS HUGE, IT’S DIVERSE, and it’s ready for you RIGHT now!!!
See you at the show!

A note about uncertified coins
This is our current offering of raw coins. Many are very close to the line between grading and not grading. For some collectors these make an excellent way to afford more coins, for their sets. Rather than be misled by Funny 3rd world holders or raw coin sellers purporting the coins as completely wholesome we are taking an entirely different approach. We are going to sell you the coins at true market value that are often pumped up beyond their real value with smoke and mirrors. As Jack Nicholson said to Tom Cruise in a Few Good Men. " You want the truth and Tom says Yeah I want the Truth and Jack says You can`t handle the truth....well sorry Jack we think they can...here it is, a bunch of Uncertified coins, with honest descriptions about their flaws with commensurate prices well below what they would cost if they went into holders. Enjoy..see you at FUN. tables 409-411.

If you have a single nice coin or an entire coin collection to sell we are the folks to see. We know the difference between average and nice, we know the difference between common and scarce, and we are not afraid to pay top prices for the right coins and strong prices across the board. If you have been at a show you`ve seen other dealers line up to sell us coins, that’s because we are real buyers, not just bargain hunters. If you want top prices, look us up first. We love first shot and will always earn the privilege.

How to
Use Our Website
First Choose Coin offerings on the
right.....
Step two
is to choose a category, then click onto the first coin.
At this point enlarge your screen and you will have the image as
well as the full description and the price date grade etc.
Everything on one page!
Step three is to hit the next button and watch how
quick the next image comes up. You will have skipped several steps
this way and you can flash through an entire section in a few
minutes with a minimum of key strokes. If you care to enlarge an
image you can and then go right back to hitting the next button.
If you want to scan through the entire list or more than one
section at a time after choosing coin offerings opt for List with
Photos and descriptions. Instead of viewing by category you will
have the entire list, usually 150-200 coins downloaded.
Click on whatever coin you wish to begin with. Then enlarge your
page, again, you will have the image and the complete description
and the price, grade etc.
Proceed to hitting the next button and you can scan through
each coin in a few seconds, stopping on the ones that interest
you. It’s like flipping through a box of coins at a show.
Another suggestion is to manipulate the Price heading...after
choosing the full list with photos and descriptions like we did
above, click onto the price header. The coins will rotate out of
order and be ordered by price, one click gets lowest price coins
at the top, a second click get the highest price coins at the top.
Then scan through looking at the collection centerpieces first or
the lowest price items first. Its great fun looking at the top
coins even if you don’t have 50k to spend on something at
that level. (Don’t forget we take all kinds of trades!)......or
if you’re on a budget start with the least expensive.
The trick is to get to that final screen, enlarge it and use
the next and previous buttons to skip the work of going back to
the first list.
To Operate the Zoom once the image is up click on zoom 1 through 4. You must click twice the first time you engage the zoom on any new coin, after that one click on the zoom will effect the change. Once coin is enlarged put cursor on the coin. Drag image around the box to view obverse or reverse. If you want a full view, page size, of the coin click onto the no zoom page icon. This will enlarge the coin to full screen size. You can also copy and save an image in the no zoom mode and email to a friend…hint hint….
I hope these explanations make the site more user friendly and
helpful hints or feedback is always appreciated............
